General goals of Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Iran:
– To disintegrate Iran’s Khuzestan province by separating all or parts of it
– Gaining sovereignty over Arvand area and dominating north of Persian Gulf
– Overthrowing Iran’s central government
– Capturing the Iranian Persian Gulf islands of Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs and portray Saddam as a hero among Arab nations
