In 1980s and early 1990s western and Russian scientists published the results of their research on one of the consequences of nuclear war which was partially observed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Atomic explosions send clouds to the stratosphere which prevents sunlight from reaching the earth, causing a nuclear winter that makes the earth cold and dark.
