El-Mashad was also an employee of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Organization while teaching at the University of Baghdad.<br \/>\nIn Iraq, Professor El-Mashad pursued a plan and goal that ultimately cost him his life, which was to rebuild the Iraqi nuclear facilities that were damaged during Iran&#8217;s Operation \u201cBurning Sword\u201d in 1980 and Israeli Operation \u201cOpera\u201d in 1981.<br \/>\nHe was assassinated by the Mossad on June 13, 1980, in a hotel in Paris.
